It’s okay to have your own things: If you are merging all of your belongings together and are protective of certain things, let your partner know! Doing this will ensure that next time you reach for your favorite coffee mug, hopefully it will be right where you left it.

Get to know each other’s pet peeves: When you discover something your partner does at home that you are not used to, don’t get upset or annoyed over it. Have a conversation with them and let them know what is on your mind. If you fold towels different ways, agree on a certain way together that will make you both satisfied.

Maintain some independence: Just because you live together, doesn’t mean you have to spend every waking moment with each other! Remember to maintain relationships with your own friends and create a balance in your life. Make a point to do things on your own once a week so you don’t spend an unhealthy amount of time together.

Try not to sweat the small stuff: There may be times where you get into small disagreements, but that is okay, it’s bound to happen! If someone leaves dishes in the sink overnight, it’s not worth fighting over! Don’t let it get you down and don’t hold a grudge about small things that are easily resolved.

Know each other’s schedule: This is one of those things that you and your roommate should discuss right off the bat! Know each other’s work/school hours, weekly activities, etc., so that your communication runs smoothly. Make sure to send a quick text to each other if your plans change so you are both aware of the apartment status, like if the temperature should be changed, or the trash taken out.

Respect privacy: It is important to make sure you don’t invade your roommate’s personal space, as it can become awkward if they feel you are invading their privacy. Always knock on your roommate’s door before entering and ask permission to borrow things from each other.

Split responsibilities: There are some chores in a household that no one ever likes to do, but someone has to! Equally carry the weight of household chores around the apartment, like taking out the trash, vacuuming the carpet, sweeping the floors, etc. It is a good idea to make an agreement or schedule so that you are on the same page with who does what and when!

Below we have put together a list of some of the best apartment hacks for apartment living, decorating, and storing!

If there is just not enough room at your place for everyone you invited to your morning yoga session, this is where stackable chairs really come in handy. They create more space if you’re entertaining, and are easier to move around when you are cleaning! For super space savers, you can also buy stackable end tables and stools.

Mason jars can be used to store any kind of small household item, and better yet, they are a relatively inexpensive purchase at your local craft store. You can attach them to the wall or line them up along the counter for a nice way to store and display small items.

Wires from your television, cable box, Internet router, etc., can be a real eyesore. Look for creative ways to hide these wires like a strategically placed stack of books or photo frame.

Check out these 7 tips below for decluttering your space this November!

1. Utilize Wall Space

Not only do shelves help maximize space for knick knacks, mail, and supplies, but you can use them for decorations and even attach hooks to hang your coats and bags.

2. An Everyday Tub For Essentials

By the front door, place a tub or basket for things that you somehow lose right before you are about to leave the apartment. It’s a great place to put your umbrella, boots, bags, scarves, and hats.

3. Keep Your Shower Simple

If you know what products work for you, stick to a few bottles and keep them in one spot in the shower so it is easier to find what you’re looking for. When you find them getting low, replenish your stock before they run out, this way you wont get stuck washing your body with shampoo!

Everyone know that August and early September can get super hot, especially here in Manassas, VA! We have some great tips on how to beat the heat for the last few weeks of the summer at Arcadia Run!

Outside your apartment

Take a dip in the pool: Our brand new resort style pool is perfect for cooling off! You can swim some laps, dip your feet in, or float around on a raft. No matter what you prefer, our pool is going to be a refreshing escape from the heat.
Go for a hike: Virginia includes some of the most diverse landscapes, from farms to mountains and beaches. Convenient for Arcadia Run residents, Hemlock Overlook Regional Parkis located right here in Manassas! It’s a great place to take a hike through the shade of a forest and discover some of Virginia’s beautiful nature trails.
Watch a movie: Luckily for Arcadia Run residents, we have a brand new theater room in our clubhouse! Grab a group of friends and chill out in the clubhouse as you lounge and watch your favorite flick.

Inside your apartment
